SOAR Head Coach Randy Teeters leads SOAR’s efforts to develop our competitive swimmers. SOAR and the North State region are incredibly fortunate to have a coach of Randy’s caliber. Randy’s experiences, both as a competitive swimmer and a competitive swim coach, along with his personal and academic understanding of exercise physiology are impressive and critical to his great success.

Randy has been involved in swimming since the age of nine while growing up in Michigan.  He held Michigan’s State Record in the 200 Meter Breast for 17-18 boys. He was top eight in the United States for the 100 and the 200 meter breaststroke as an age group swimmer (17-18 Boys) and he was the Junior National East Runner-up in the 100 and the 200 Breast.  Randy finished among the top ten at the United States National Championships. Randy swam for Olympic Coach Jon Urbanchek’s University of Michigan in Ann Arbor Big Ten Championship swim team for two years. Randy then transferred to Oakland University in Rochester Hills, MI as a full scholarship athlete and swam as a National Champion at the NCAA Division II level. Randy held Oakland University’s 400 IM team record. Randy graduated from Oakland University with a Bachelor's degree in Human Biology and Exercise Physiology and started studies toward a Masters Degree in Exercise Physiology.

Randy has coached all levels of competitive swimming, from country club, to age group and masters swimming throughout his competitive career to the present. He spent three years as an assistant college swim coach at Oakland University

Randy first came to Redding in 1999 to lead Redding Aquatics, which he did for five years before starting the SOAR program with his wife Alice in the fall of 2004. He has led and instructed summer swim lessons at Sun Oaks Club since the summer of 1999. In addition to his duties at SOAR, Randy works with Enterprise High School’s swim team, and has been both the head and assistant coach.  He currently ranks Level 3 of 5 in experience with the American Swim Coaches Association (ASCA). He is also Level 4 of 5 in Education and has completed the ASCA Administration School.

Randy enjoys all the different stages in developing competitive swimmers. He feels that swimming can teach us all a lot about dedication, commitment and results. Learning to be successful in swimming teaches our kids how to be successful in other areas of life. Randy’s swimmers talk to him on the pool deck before each race to discuss race strategy and how to attack the race at hand. After the race, his swimmers come back for a “Good job! Great race!” and a quick discussion of where they can improve. Swim practices allow the swimmers to build strength and endurance. Special stroke clinics and turn and start clinics help refine the efforts and lower race times. Randy has coached swimmers to the Top 16 on a National Age Group level. Not everyone is physically capable of reaching this level or higher, but Randy will help swimmers improve and achieve their personal best.

Randy lives in Redding, CA with his wife, Alice Natina Teeters, two growing sons, Stefen and Victor, and daughter Ruby. He loves fishing, all outdoor activities and coaching at SOAR.
